MANILA, Philippines — In a bold and unprecedented political move, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered all members of his Cabinet to submit their courtesy resignations, signaling a massive government realignment aimed at weeding out underperforming and misaligned officials.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, 33 top officials, including several Cabinet secretaries and presidential advisers, have filed their resignations. An additional eight have expressed their intent to do the same.

🔍 Why the Cabinet Reshuffle?

The shakeup comes just days after the 2025 midterm elections, with Marcos stating:

“The people have spoken, and they expect results—not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act.”

Malacañang emphasized that the move is not about instability but restoring public trust in government, aligning leadership with the people’s expectations, and eliminating complacency, corruption, and political baggage.

According to Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro, growing public disappointment in certain departments played a major role in this dramatic decision.

“There’s no place for the lazy and corrupt in President Marcos Jr.’s administration,” Castro stressed. “This move allows the President to review each official’s performance and decide who stays based on new goals.”

📊 What’s Next?

Despite the wave of resignations, the Palace assured the public that day-to-day government operations remain normal. The officials who resigned will still fulfill their duties while a comprehensive performance review is underway.

“The review team has not been officially announced,” said Castro. “But rest assured, the results will come out soon—and the public will be informed.”

This strategic reshuffle is not just about changing faces. It’s about building a more accountable, efficient, and goal-aligned administration—one that puts public service and performance above politics.

33 Marcos Cabinet-Stability, Not Chaos?

While some critics raised concerns about potential instability, the Palace dismissed such fears.

“This is not chaos,” Castro clarified. “It’s discipline. It’s leadership. And it’s the President’s way of making sure that only those truly committed to serving the Filipino people remain in power.”
