Duterte in Custody at Camp Crame

Manila, Philippines — Former President Rodrigo Duterte is in police custody at Camp Crame, according to Senator Bong Go. Speaking to reporters at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday morning, Go confirmed that authorities had detained Duterte.

“Nasa PNP na po,” Go stated, referring to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Police Confirm Duterte’s Detention in Quezon City

Former Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, who accompanied Go, said Duterte is being held at Camp Crame in Quezon City. “Yun ang sabi sa akin ni (PNP chief) General Marbil,” Bello told reporters, citing confirmation from PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil.

Bello added that authorities served a “document” to Duterte, though it remains unclear if it was a warrant of arrest.

Duterte’s Drug War Legacy and Legal Challenges

Duterte’s detention marks a major development in Philippine history. As the chief architect of the country’s controversial war on drugs, he oversaw thousands of deaths as President and Mayor of Davao City. Official government data reports at least 6,000 fatalities under his anti-drug campaign. However, human rights organizations and the International Criminal Court (ICC) estimate the real death toll could be between 12,000 and 30,000 from 2016 to 2019, with many classified as extrajudicial killings.

With Duterte in custody, the public awaits further statements from government officials on the charges and legal proceedings against him. This unfolding situation continues to draw widespread reactions.

As the case develops, stay tuned for the latest updates on Duterte’s detention and its impact on Philippine politics and international relations.
