Tay-K convicted second murder | SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — Texas rapper Tay-K, born Taymor McIntyre, has been convicted of murder for the second time. A jury found him guilty of shooting and killing photographer Mark Anthony Saldivar in 2017 during an attempted robbery.
This latest conviction adds to the 55-year sentence he’s already serving for a separate murder in 2016. That crime involved a home invasion near Fort Worth.

Prosecutors said McIntyre asked Saldivar to take photos for a music project. He picked Saldivar up in a car, pretending it was a normal job. Instead, Tay-K allegedly tried to rob him and then shot him during the confrontation.
“Mark thought he was doing a job,” said lead prosecutor Angela Moore. “But Tay-K set him up to be robbed.”

Defense Claims Flawed Investigation | Rapper Second Murder
McIntyre’s legal team pushed back hard. They claimed investigators relied too much on statements from people inside the car at the time of the shooting. Those witnesses, they argued, had reasons to protect themselves.
“You can’t just believe anyone,” said defense attorney John Hunter. “The police didn’t do a full investigation. That’s why Taymor is not guilty of murder, manslaughter, or anything else.”
Despite the defense’s push, the jury found McIntyre guilty of murder. However, they cleared him of capital murder, which would have meant life in prison without parole.
Sentencing Phase Begins
Now, the trial enters the sentencing phase. Jurors will hear more evidence before deciding Tay-K’s final punishment. He faces up to life in prison—but with a possibility of parole.
It’s still unclear whether this new sentence will run at the same time as his 55-year sentence or be added on top.

Background: Tay-K and “The Race”
McIntyre became a viral figure in 2017 after releasing the track “The Race.” He recorded the song while on the run for his first murder charge.
The lyrics, which described fleeing from police, made headlines. The song charted nationally and drew attention to Tay-K’s criminal case.
In 2019, a jury convicted him of his role in the death of Ethan Walker, a 21-year-old man shot during a robbery. That conviction led to a 55-year sentence.
Public Divided Over Tay-K’s Case
Tay-K’s story has sparked debate across social media. Some fans point to his age—he was 16 during the first killing—and say the justice system failed him. Others argue the victims deserve justice, and that Tay-K’s fame doesn’t excuse his crimes.
Legal analysts agree that McIntyre’s past and present convictions will heavily influence his sentence. They believe parole may be unlikely in the near future.
What’s Next for Tay-K?
As the sentencing phase continues, the jury will review more of Tay-K’s background, criminal history, and potential for rehabilitation.
Though he technically has a shot at parole, multiple convictions for violent crimes will likely keep him behind bars for decades—if not for life. > Texas Department of Criminal Justice > Associated Press Crime Coverage
