MANILA, Philippines — Rianne Malixi, reigning US Women’s Amateur and US Girls’ Junior Champion, is launching a bold new initiative to support young Filipino golfers. Her junior golf camp, called “The Big Leap”, runs from May 20 to 23 at Royal Northwoods Golf Course in Bulacan. The camp aims to mentor the next generation of junior golfers, in partnership with the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP).
The program will fully sponsor 20 promising golfers aged 12 and under, all personally selected by Malixi. These young athletes will train under her personal regimen, giving them and their families a strong head start in their junior golf journey.

Participants include: Filomena Tambunting, Marco Angheng, Brie Macasaet, Franco Estrella, Stephanie Gan, Andres Jeturian, Quincy Pilac, Halo Pangilinan, Kami del Mundo, Jacob Sy, Venus de los Santos, Luis Espinosa, Muniq Dy, Rupert Cariño, Marquella Dy, Miguel Orbita, Samantha Alvarez, Monte Andaman, Mavis Espedido, Eliana Mendoza, Erriane Pobeda, Aerin Chan, and Cailley Gonzales.
“I’m excited to hold this camp for my younger brothers and sisters in golf,” said Malixi. “I’ve been fortunate to experience success early, and I want to share what I’ve learned. This camp is about inspiring young golfers and helping them take their own big leap.”

The camp will not change the campers’ swings. Instead, it will introduce training strategies that shaped Rianne’s career. Her father, Roy Malixi, emphasized the camp’s goal: “We want to share what worked for Rianne — and more importantly, what didn’t. This is about helping families avoid common mistakes while navigating junior golf.”
Program Director Norman Sto. Domingo, Malixi’s long-time swing coach, will lead the camp. Coach Jun Cedo will supervise field instruction, while Willy Panganiban, JGFP coach Aileen Yao, and Quantum Indoor coaches Hanson So and Venjo Reyes will guide players in small groups focusing on short game and course strategy.

The program also includes mental, physical, and nutritional training. Dr. Robert Winters, Rianne’s sports psychologist from Australia, will hold live online sessions with the kids. Joann Tan-Lorenzo will teach the importance of sports nutrition, and Mark Caron, a certified strength and conditioning coach, will guide players in physical readiness.

The camp will also feature talks for parents. Experienced golf parents will discuss how they supported their children through international schedules and tournaments. Parents and players will also attend lectures on golf rules and etiquette to promote professionalism on and off the course.
A Movement for Better Junior Golf
JGFP President Oliver Gan praised the initiative. “We admire Rianne not just as a champion, but as someone who gives back,” he said. “This camp sets a new standard for junior golf in the Philippines. It reminds us that growth in sport should be inclusive, positive, and free of toxicity.”
As Rianne prepares to fly to Wisconsin for the US Women’s Open, she leaves a legacy with The Big Leap—a camp designed to inspire, guide, and elevate the next wave of Filipino golf champions. NOWTREND
