Sandro Marcos Gains Ground in House Leadership Talk
Ilocos Norte Representative Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, son of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is being considered for the House Majority Leader position in the upcoming 20th Congress. La Union Representative Paolo Ortega confirmed this during a press briefing on Thursday.
“Sandro’s name is being floated. He’s very much qualified,” Ortega said. “But we’ll see. Many members also deserve a chance at leadership roles. More than titles, it’s about showing strong work ethic. That’s all I know for now.”
More Than Seniority: Leadership Requires Accountability and Teamwork
Ortega explained that while seniority matters, it’s not the only basis for choosing House leaders. He highlighted qualities like responsibility, relationship-building, and teamwork as just as important.
“It’s also about being responsible and building strong relationships,” Ortega said. “We need teamwork to pass important bills. Experience helps, but it’s not the only thing that counts. In the 19th Congress, even us neophytes got a solid training ground.”
Sandro’s Political Rise: From Deputy Leader to Potential House Majority Leader
During his first term in the 19th Congress, Sandro served as the Senior Deputy Majority Leader. His cousin, Martin Romualdez, who is also the President’s uncle, led that Congress as House Speaker.
Sandro’s active role in legislation and his exposure to House leadership have fueled talk of his possible promotion. While nothing is confirmed, his growing influence signals that he’s becoming a major player in the country’s political scene. NOWTREND
Sandro Marcos What Lies Ahead for the 20th Congress
The 20th Congress is expected to focus on fast-tracking bills related to infrastructure, healthcare, education, and digital innovation. With his growing political profile and close ties to the executive branch, Sandro Marcos could play a major role in shaping legislative priorities.

Should he take the helm as House Majority Leader, Sandro would become one of the youngest Filipinos to ever hold the position—continuing the legacy of the Marcos political dynasty while charting his own path in Philippine politics.
