JULY 29,2025
In a nationwide move to help calamity-hit areas, the Land Transportation Office has extended a grace period for motorists affected by recent typhoons.
LTO Offers Relief for Motorists Affected by Crising, Dante, and Emong
Pursuant to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to support Filipinos reeling from the impacts of back-to-back storms, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has waived all penalties for:
- Late vehicle registration
- Driver’s license (DL) renewal
- Unsettled traffic violation fines
This applies exclusively to calamity-stricken areas impacted by the three successive weather systems—Crising, Dante, and Emong—that recently battered Luzon and large parts of the country.
LTO Waives what Penalties Are Waived and Until When?
According to the official memorandum signed by Acting Assistant Secretary Atty. Greg G. Pua, Jr., the waiver covers:
- Late registration and renewal fines for motor vehicles and driver’s licenses due from July 21–25, 2025
- These deadlines are extended until August 8, 2025, giving residents extra time to process documents without incurring fees
- New vehicles purchased from July 21–25 are also exempt from late registration penalties, with the sales invoice counting only from August 8
In addition, the memo states that:
- The 15-day payment period for traffic apprehensions issued between July 21–25 is extended, and
- Motorists can settle fines without penalties until August 8, 2025
LTO Waives Why This Matters: Over 2.7 million Affected
Triggered by torrential rains from Crising, Dante, Emong, and the enhanced habagat (southwest monsoon), massive flooding impacted over 2.7 million Filipinos.
This move from the LTO, under DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, aims to ease the burden of affected motorists—especially those who lost access to LTO services due to widespread flooding and road closures. NOWTREND
