COTABATO CITY – Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim has called on the people of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to continue their efforts in promoting peace not just during Ramadan, but throughout the year. In a heartfelt message on the first day of the holy month, Ebrahim emphasized the importance of working together for peace and unity.
“I will continue to pray for peace, not only in the Bangsamoro but across the world,” Ebrahim shared, urging the community to embrace the spirit of sacrifice and extend acts of kindness to those in need. He highlighted the significance of charitable acts during Ramadan, particularly offering food and support to the less fortunate.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the challenges faced in the region, including the separation of Sulu from the regional bureaucracy and the upcoming parliamentary elections in BARMM. “I ask for your prayers for our Sulu brothers and sisters and for peaceful and credible elections in BARMM,” he said, calling on everyone to love one another, regardless of differences.
Ramadan is a time when Muslims around the world devote themselves to prayer, reflection, and charity. It is a period of fasting, self-discipline, and spiritual renewal. During this month, acts of kindness, especially towards the less fortunate, are encouraged as part of religious duty. To mark the start of the holy month, the Bangsamoro Government Center in Cotabato City was adorned with beautiful lighting installations, including a golden arch that symbolizes the spirit of Ramadan.

In light of Ramadan, Ebrahim has also issued an order to adjust working hours for Muslim officials and employees in BARMM ministries, offices, and agencies. Instead of the usual 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, work hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This change, in accordance with Presidential Decree 291, ensures that Muslim employees can fulfill their religious duties while still meeting the required 40-hour workweek.
Ramadan: A Time for Reflection and Renewal of Faith
Mohagher Iqbal, BARMM Education Minister, also urged Muslims to make the most of Ramadan as an opportunity for self-discipline, self-reflection, and strengthening their connection with Allah. “Ramadan is more than just a period of fasting; it is a time for personal growth, generosity, and embodying the values of patience, gratitude, and compassion,” Iqbal said. These values not only guide Muslims in their personal lives but also inspire their service to the Bangsamoro people.

This Ramadan, as we focus on spiritual growth, selflessness, and community, let us take this time to reflect on the importance of peace, unity, and love for one another—principles that will carry us through Ramadan and beyond.
