Cabinet Shakeup Targets Lazy, Corrupt Officials – Palace

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s bold call for courtesy resignations from all Cabinet secretaries is not a sign of instability—but a calculated move to realign the government with the people’s expectations, Malacañang said Thursday.

According to Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro, the sweeping directive is designed to purge underperforming or misaligned officials and usher in a new era of accountability in government service.

“The public should be more pleased because the President is showing that there is no place in the government, in the administration, for the lazy and the corrupt,” Castro said during a press briefing.

The Palace emphasized that this Cabinet Shakeup is not about politics—it’s about performance and public trust. Castro noted that officials who no longer reflect the administration’s direction will be replaced with those “more deserving of the position.”

When asked if this move reflects a stronger leadership stance from Marcos, Castro replied, “Yes. This is just the beginning.”

Cabinet Shakeup-A Disciplinarian Not Needed, Palace Says

This announcement came in response to suggestions from Senator-elect Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, who said the President might benefit from having a “bastonero” or a disciplinarian to enforce discipline across government agencies in the remaining years of his term.

But Castro rejected the idea, asserting that Marcos does not need such a figure to maintain control.

“The President can keep things in order. He’s in charge and this shows he’s not afraid to make hard decisions,” she said.

Not Business As Usual

Earlier in the day, the Presidential News Desk released Marcos’ official statement, in which he declared:

“It’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations. This is not business as usual.”

He continued, “The people have spoken, and they expect results — not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act.”

The President’s move signals a shift toward results-driven governance as the country moves forward from the 2025 midterm elections.
