PHILIPPINES – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to conduct another round of nationwide voter registration in the third quarter of 2025, following the May 12 midterm elections. This move aims to encourage more Filipinos to exercise their right to vote in upcoming electoral events.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia confirmed on Wednesday that the voter registration period is expected to take place sometime between July and August, ahead of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for December 2025.

“We are looking at a 10-day nationwide voter registration period around July or August. Given the short duration, we estimate that around 1 million to 1.2 million new voters may be added to the registry,” Garcia shared during a weekly forum in Manila.

Important Details on the Voter Registration Process

The upcoming registration will provide an opportunity for first-time voters and those who have yet to update their records to participate in future elections. However, Garcia clarified that new registrants from this period will not be eligible to vote in the October 2025 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections due to the lengthy process involved in validating new voter applications.

“Voter registration is more than just signing up; it involves several critical steps, including Election Registration Board (ERB) hearings and verification. Given the tight timeline, it will not be feasible for these new registrants to participate in the Bangsamoro elections,” he explained.

Comelec’s Commitment to Voter Participation

The Commission remains committed to ensuring a smooth and efficient voter registration process, particularly as the country prepares for the Barangay and SK Elections in December 2025. The previous registration period, held from February 12 to September 30, 2024, saw a significant turnout, contributing to the total of 68,431,965 registered voters for the upcoming midterm polls.

With the increasing number of eligible voters, Comelec continues to encourage citizens to stay informed and take advantage of registration periods to secure their right to vote in future elections.

Why This Matters

  • Democratic Participation: Every vote counts. Registering early ensures that citizens can participate in shaping the future of their communities and the nation.
  • Upcoming Elections: While new registrants won’t be part of the Bangsamoro elections, they will be eligible for future national and local elections.
  • Easy and Accessible Registration: Comelec aims to make the process smooth and efficient, despite the limited registration period.
