KALAMAZOO, Mich. — In a thrilling double-overtime battle that will go down in program history, the Western Michigan University Broncos secured their place in the Frozen Four Championship for the first time ever, defeating the Denver Pioneers 3-2 on Thursday night at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
The WMU Broncos Frozen Four journey continues, and their victory has electrified the campus and community alike.

Game Recap: Five Periods of Unforgettable Hockey
The Broncos controlled the puck early, peppering Denver with 12 shots in the first period, while holding the Pioneers to just three. Though the scoreboard remained empty after the first 20 minutes, momentum clearly favored Western.
By the second period, that momentum paid off. Goals by Brian Kramer and Owen Michaels gave the Broncos a solid 2-0 lead. Outshooting the Pioneers 32-8, Western Michigan seemed poised for a smooth finish.
But the Pioneers weren’t going down without a fight. In the third period, Denver clawed their way back with two goals of their own, tying the game at 2-2 and sending the Frozen Four semi-final into overtime.
The first overtime saw both teams trading defensive blows, with neither side able to break through. But just 26 seconds into the second overtime, Owen Michaels, already a hero from earlier, sealed the win with a quick wrist shot that sent the Broncos — and their fans — into euphoric celebration.
