A Big Win for Hyundai’s EV Buyers
There’s exciting news for electric vehicle fans. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 qualifies for $7,500 tax credit once again. After months of waiting, the 2025 model has returned to the EPA’s list of eligible EVs.
This change, updated on May 1st, means more buyers can now benefit—not just those who lease. Even though the IONIQ 5 has been assembled at Hyundai’s Georgia Metaplant for four months, it wasn’t listed—until now.
Now, cash and financed purchases are eligible for the full incentive. That opens the door for many households, as long as income stays below the limits.
To qualify, you must earn:
- Under $300,000 (married, filing jointly)
- Under $225,000 (head of household)
- Under $150,000 (individual)
With this tax credit, the price of a 2025 IONIQ 5 drops to between $36,575 and $49,475, keeping it below the federal $80,000 MSRP cap.

Hyundai Celebrates with Track Power
To celebrate the news, Hyundai is showing off its performance side. The brand is entering the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N in the Tire Rack One Lap of America.
This version of the IONIQ 5 is no ordinary EV. It’s a 601-horsepower track machine, and it’s competing in the Alternative Fuels class. Hyundai partnered with the experts at Grassroots Motorsports for this run.
Drivers Andy Hollis and Tom Suddard are taking on the challenge. They’ll race a stock model, proving its power, comfort, and road-trip readiness.
“We wanted the best of all worlds,” Suddard says. “The IONIQ 5 N brings speed, comfort, and durability to one package.”
The One Lap event is no walk in the park. It features 17 timed competitions at drag strips, road courses, skid pads, and more. Between each track, teams drive thousands of miles on public roads.
This year, 86 teams are competing. The route includes famous tracks like Virginia International Raceway and NCM Motorsports Park.
