ILOILO CITY – The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3rd ID) has deployed 3,922 soldiers and 91 military assets across Western Visayas and Negros Island regions. This action aims to ensure peaceful and orderly elections on May 12.
“Our top priority is to ensure the integrity of the elections and voter safety,” emphasized Major General Michael Samson, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division. He added that the division has completed thorough preparations for soldiers to perform effectively during the elections.
May 12 Elections Enhanced Security Measures Across Western Visayas
The Joint Task Force (JTF) Spear, led by the 301st Infantry Brigade based in Dingle, Iloilo, oversees election security in Western Visayas. Approximately 1,126 troops from the 61st, 82nd, and 12th Infantry Battalions, with 48 mobility assets, are deployed in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo.
Additionally, the 3rd Infantry Division reinforced the region with 274 soldiers and one mobility asset. This reinforcement enhances security measures and rapid response capabilities.
May 12 Elections Heightened Security in Negros Island Region
Two brigades manage election security in the Negros Island region. The 303rd Infantry Brigade, located in Murcia, Negros Occidental, and the 302nd Infantry Brigade in Tanjay City, coordinate security efforts.
They deployed 2,522 soldiers from six battalions—the 62nd, 79th, 15th, 47th, 94th, and 11th—alongside 42 mobility assets. These units secure polling places, election materials, and maintain public order throughout the provinces.
Close Coordination with Election Authorities
Soldiers actively coordinate with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). Their joint efforts aim to create synchronized security protocols, ensuring secure, transparent, and peaceful elections.
“We continuously liaise with election officials and police units to address security concerns effectively,” said Maj. Gen. Samson. He encouraged public cooperation to support election security measures.
Brig. Gen. Michael G. Samson, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division of Philippine Army, says on April 11, 2025 that communist terrorist groups will not have a major influence in the conduct of the upcoming midterm elections in Western Visayas.
