MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) plans to complete the long-delayed MRT-7 project by 2027, according to DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon. He made this announcement after his confirmation by the Commission on Appointments.
MRT-7 Project Set to Finish in 2027
Secretary Dizon confidently stated, “I’ve told the President this, that by 2027, both the MRT-7 and the common station will be finished and fully operational. This will ensure seamless connectivity between the LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7.”
Currently, commuters must take buses or other transportation to transfer between LRT-1’s Fernando Poe Jr. station and MRT-3’s North Avenue station, even though their tracks run parallel along EDSA.
The Common Station: Connecting Key Rail Lines
The common station will finally connect LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7. This will make transfers faster and easier. Dizon said that the two-hour commute will be reduced to just 30 minutes with the new system in place.
Overcoming Delays: The History of MRT
The MRT-7 project began under former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The groundbreaking occurred during the administration of the late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte promised to launch partial operations by 2022, but the deadline was pushed back. Under Marcos’ administration, the initial target was to begin partial operations by the end of 2025. However, changes in design pushed the completion date to 2028.
Dizon’s Leadership Sparks New Hope
Secretary Dizon remains optimistic and has pushed the target completion date up to 2027. This gives hope for the project’s future and highlights Dizon’s determination to overcome the delays.
Key Benefits of MRT-7 Completion:
- Faster Commute: Transfers between LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7 will be quick and easy, reducing travel time.
- Improved Connectivity: The common station will link the three major rail lines.
- Better Passenger Experience: The new system will reduce delays and improve the daily commute.
Conclusion: A Game-Changer for Metro Manila
The MRT-7 project, though long-delayed, is finally on track to completion. With Dizon’s leadership, Metro Manila’s commuters can look forward to a more connected and efficient rail system by 2027. This project promises to transform daily travel and ease congestion in the capital. NOWTREND
