MANILA, Philippines — PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil and CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said they are ready to face legal action tied to former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest.
During a briefing on Wednesday, PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo confirmed their position. The statement followed Senator Imee Marcos’s call to investigate five government officials, including Marbil and Torre.

Marcos, who chairs the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, claimed the officials violated laws during Duterte’s arrest and transfer to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“Chief Marbil and General Torre are prepared to answer all charges in the proper forum,” Fajardo stated.
“They believe they acted within legal bounds and followed their official mandate.”

PNP Chief-To clarify their involvement, Fajardo explained that the PNP only assisted the Philippine Center for Transnational Crimes (PCTC). The PCTC had requested support in enforcing an Interpol Red Notice for Duterte.
Other Officials Under Scrutiny
In addition to Marbil and Torre, Senator Marcos also called for a probe into:
- Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla
- Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla
- Special Envoy for Transnational Crimes Markus Lacanilao
These officials played roles in Duterte’s arrest and his transport to the Netherlands.
PNP Chief-Duterte’s Arrest and ICC Charges
On March 11, 2025, authorities arrested Duterte and flew him to The Hague. There, he faces crimes against humanity charges related to his administration’s deadly war on drugs.
Since then, reactions have been mixed. Some support the move, while others view it as a blow to national sovereignty. Clearly, the debate over justice and accountability in the Philippines is far from over.
