Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed her joy over the 2025 Philippine midterm election results. In a Facebook post on May 13, she called it a turning point for progressive governance in the country.
“This isn’t just a simple comeback,” she said. “This election proves the Filipino people still want a government with compassion, values, and courage.”

Former Senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan are both in the Top 12 Senate candidates, based on partial and unofficial results. Their return signals renewed strength for the opposition movement.
The Akbayan Partylist, led by Chel Diokno, also made waves. As of 10:01 a.m. on May 13, Akbayan led the party-list race with 6.54% of the vote. That’s over 2 million votes—marking a historic milestone for progressives.
“Once more, the Filipino people brought Akbayan to the top,” Hontiveros said. “This is a win rooted in trust and unity.”
Youth Voters Drive Momentum
Hontiveros credited young voters for playing a crucial role in the election.
“Special shoutout to our youth voters,” she added. “You were game-changers in this race.”

Another progressive voice rising in the party-list count is the Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist, with Leila de Lima as its first nominee. Hontiveros said she was thrilled to see Akbayan and ML both heading to Congress.
“They will fight for justice, human rights, and good governance,” she said.
Risa Hontiveros-A Call to Action for Change
Hontiveros congratulated Aquino and Pangilinan for their strong showing. She said she looked forward to working with them again in the Senate.
“You are the voices we need right now,” she said. “Together, we’ll push forward for the people.”
She emphasized key issues voters care about:
“Raise wages. Lower the cost of living. Make education accessible. Hold the powerful accountable.”
She ended her post with a hopeful message:
“With Kiko and Bam in the Senate, and Akbayan and ML in Congress, we’re stronger. We’re united. And we’re ready.”
“To the millions who stood with us: Thank you. This is only the beginning.”
