MANILA, Philippines — The Alyansa Senate slate rejected claims of defeat in the 2025 Philippine midterm elections, calling the result a “draw” against the Duterte-backed candidates.

Rep. Toby Tiangco, campaign manager of Alyansa, said the Senate results showed a balanced outcome, not a loss for the administration. “We didn’t sweep the top 12, but we didn’t suffer a political setback either,” he said.

Senate Race-A Divided Senate Emerges

According to the final tally, five of the winning senators had support from former President Rodrigo Duterte or Vice President Sara Duterte. These included Bong Go, Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Rodante Marcoleta, Camille Villar, and Imee Marcos.

Meanwhile, Alyansa secured five seats as well. Erwin Tulfo, Ping Lacson, Tito Sotto, Pia Cayetano, and Lito Lapid all entered the Senate under the administration’s banner.

This split in the Senate lineup reflects a divided voter base. Neither bloc achieved dominance in the upper chamber.

Senate Race-Wild Cards Disrupt the Balance

Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino also made it into the top 12. They were not part of either major camp. Their presence blocked a clear win for both sides and added a twist to the outcome.

Impeachment Issue Hurt Alyansa in Mindanao

Tiangco said the House’s move to impeach VP Sara Duterte affected their campaign, especially in Mindanao. “Before the issue, we had nine strong candidates there. That dropped to four,” he said. The team also held fewer campaign events in the region.

Despite this, local bets from Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) won key areas in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Final Word from Alyansa

Tiangco emphasized that voters were emotional and divided. He believes the Senate results reflect this. “To call this a loss is misleading. The numbers show a balanced outcome,” he said.

The 2025 midterm elections ended with a split Senate, signaling a demand for balance, accountability, and shared power in Philippine politics. NOWTREND
